It's here!! Tomorrow's the day! After 7 months and 13 days, the Steamboat Ski Area opens for skiing and riding tomorrow morning again. I actually had to count through the calendar just to make sure that number was accurate. It seems like such a long time. Yet, here it is. The terrain selection is what you would expect: Beeline, Big Foot, Boulevard, Preview, Right-O-Way, Stampede, Yoo Hoo,
Jess' Cut-Off, Sitz, Vogue, See Me and Lil' Rodeo. However, we're starting with a better base than we've had for the past two seasons.
On top of that, the Terrain Park crew has expanded the Lil' Rodeo park to include up to 12 rails, boxes and jumps. I saw it this morning when I went to drop off my board at my locker and I was impressed. I was pretty psyched last season when my good friend, Scott Anfang, put together that park for Opening Day. Now, Nick Roma's the head of the Terrain Park crew and it's obvious his plan is to build upon and expand Scott's vision. Way to go, Nick!
Tomorrow will also be my first day back teaching. I can honestly say I cannot wait to get back out there and bring more people into the fold. It's such a rush to see the light bulb flick on above people's heads when they first "get" snowboarding. I'm lucky to have a hand in making that happen. For those of you who have been in lessons with me, you know what I mean. For those of you who know someone interested in taking a lesson, I certainly would appreciate the referral. The beginner terrain since the base area re-grade two years ago combined with the newest equipment has made the learning process much easier and a lot less painful.
I plan to keep this blog pretty current throughout the season so keep checking back. Now GO RIDE!!!
