Amazing what a 4 day snowstorm can do. Breck had already opened peak 9 early, but now it is skiing incredibly well. I skied friday and found the snow to be very nice. I left on Friday night for a PrePaid Legal event on Saturday in Denver. Upon my return on Saturday evening, I was simply amazed with how much snow had fallen. I told myself I was going to be at the ski area early on Sunday morning. I was and the snow was great.
In talking with some of the patrol, they are pleased with how much snow is on the hill. And very pleased that the snowpack is solid. There were just a few sluff slides in the Horseshoe Bowl, and today was a good day to get some ski pressure on the snow. This helps breakdown the granular snow that can be formed between the ground and the new snow. The result is a good adherence between the snow and the ground, and minimal danger of Avalanche. The east and north facing portions of the bowl were skied heavily today.
The difficulty for the patrol is that so much has opened so quickly, they have very much to do in a short period of time. Bamboo, wind fence, tower pads, etc. I have full faith in their ability to get 'er done. However, they are still menaced with the IDIOTS who duck ropes wherever they see fresh. Come on people, there really is a reason for having those in place.
For the past few weeks my son and I have been building a mountain in the back of our home. It is fun to play on. It is currently about a 10' drop to a 2 foot jump. We have been doing this for the past 4 years, however this is the biggest yet.

As I mentioned, I skied today and met up with Dave Levinson (Trainer, Certified Pro, and Real Estate broker), we had some fun in the Horseshoe and Contest Bowls. A bit later we saw "PacMan" teaching a Lvl 9 group for some early morning turns. I broke free from my friends and got to ski with my son at Breck. We had a blast skiing some blue and blue/black bumps around Peak 8.

It is getting cold this evening (7* @ 9pm). This morning was single digits, yet the afternoon was pleasant in the 20's.
