I recently relocated from Sydney to Austria to work another back-to-back winter as a Snowboard Instructor. The travelling is the most fun part of this job and also the most wearing. It's great to travel but it becomes draining doing it so often.
My season preparations involved being fired from my job (for giving my boss a weeks notice) and trying to pack my life into 27 Kilos.
24 hours in the air
My journey would take about 30 hours. 24 hours of this is on planes, can't wait. Just to let you know, I hate flying, I never used to be scared, but now I am. I just look at flights as a matter of survival.
My first flight was entertaining because I met two awesome girls. The mother/daughter combo really helped me through the flight. I managed to sleep most of the first flight with the help of a sedative that was given to me by my new found friends.
The stopover was fairly standard. Stretching and meditation really seemed to help before the long flight.
I took more of the sedative on the second flight and slept for 10 hours of the 14. It made the flight fairly pleasant. China Airlines were also much better than I thought they would be.
I watched Pubic Enemies and District 9, both excellent films well worth a watch.
The rest of the flight was smooth and easy.
Trains and Automobiles
I got off the flight and was on a bus headed for the train station about 20 mins later. It all seemed pretty easy considering it was 6.30am.
I boarded the train, the journey took about 5 hours, boarded another train, took 45 mins, boarded a bus and then finally ended up in this random town in the middle of Austria. The town of Kirchdorf will be my home for the next 6 months.
Austria first impressions
It was snowing when I arrived, stunningly beautiful and I got to ride on my second day.
All-in-all it was an awesome first impression.
I'm super stoked for the season and can't wait to see what new adventures will unfold.
